CAB

Our Citizens Advice Bureau work includes a wide range of issues, such as benefits issues, housing and disability benefits. Rozi Chopra is the Leeds Citizens Advice bureau Asian Women’s Outreach Worker. She liaises with other agencies to help women access the main-stream services. Most of the women who use this service have language barriers as they cannot speak English but since Rozi is able to speak four different Asian languages, it makes this service unique and accessible for the Asian community.

Our services are in such high demand that it is best to arrange appointments outside session hours to meet our clients and resolve their problems.

Here are a few examples of how our CAB work is beneficial to the service users of Dosti:

I started going to Dosti in the year 2000, at which time Rozi was working as a CAB worker. Her role was to provide advice and assist members with any issues. I have always been able to discuss any problems that I have personally gone through and she has always been able to help and support me. Rozi is an empathetic, approachable and sensitive person and does her job very well and I know that she will continue to provide an excellent service.

Rozi understands how isolated Asian women can be within their own communities and the wider community. It is especially difficult for Asian women who experience mental health problems, as these are not generally discussed within Asian families and communities. Rozi is like a life line to us. She is also very understanding of different Asian religions and cultures and she treats everyone as equal and with respect.
